Training and Continued Professional Development

In the summer of 2005 I completed a three year teacher training diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga. My main tutor was Wendy Haring; I was also taught by Christopher Gladwell and John Davis. Previous to this I undertook a one-year foundation course, also through the British Wheel of Yoga - my tutor was Connie Pearce. I teach and practice Ashtanga Yoga - Christopher Gladwell has been my main teacher with regard to the practice and teaching of Ashtanga yoga.

During the course of my training, and subsequent to my training I have worked with some of the leading exponents of Ashtanga Yoga including John Scott, Nancy Gilgoff, Andrew Eppler, Leela Millar, Raphael Dabora, Matthew Vollmer and Danny Paradise.

I have found and continue to find the practice of yoga a life enhancing and enlightening experience. Life unfolds before and around me, nothing remains the same, all is in flux, all is possible - yoga helps me to embrace this.

Acknowledgements

I thank all those who have helped me and continue to aid me on my journey in yoga.

Training and Continued Professional Development

I was blessed to teach meditative Diamond Yoga after 15 years of working with my long-term mentor/teacher Rob Simpson. I studied Hatha Yoga formally over a 2 year period with Jan le Gallez to obtain my Yoga Teachers Diploma, which was awarded with distinction. David Swenson trained me as an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher. I have studied 'Heart Yoga' with Peter Yates and I am a student of Sri K Patthabi Jois and Saraswathi Jois. I am a member of the British Wheel of Yoga, the British Yoga Teachers Association and the Independent Yoga Network. I am listed as a Yoga Teacher on 'The Yoga Register' (500 hours minimum Training). I regularly attend workshops, study days and yoga retreats. I hold a Cert. Ed, (FE) which was awarded with distinction. I am a Registered General Nurse.

I have been practising yoga for 18 years and teaching for five years. Through teaching yoga I have found a powerful connection to my centre (my sacred heart) which comes from teaching yoga as I have learned it, lived it and experienced it. What I teach is grounded in the reality of my daily Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. For me, Ashtanga Yoga is a movement meditation: in my practice I aim to be fully aware and 'in the moment' for each and every breath. The set sequence, the holding of gaze points; the use of muscular locks, and the flowing ujayi breath focuses the senses so that meditation becomes possible. The ultimate goal of yoga is for each of us to experience our true nature. My aim as a teacher is to help others to practice with sensitivity, awareness and joy.

Acknowledgements

I honour my teachers Sri K Patthabi Jois; Saraswathi Jois; Rob Simpson; David Swenson, and Peter Yates.

I am deeply grateful for the support of my fellow yogi's, friends and family. I am especially blessed each day by the loving support of my partner Peter. I am thankful to all of my students: what an honour it is to teach and to learn from you.
